Tribalism can mean two different things. Firstly it is advocating for tribes or tribal lifestyles. In the first sense, I am an advocate of tribalism. Tribalism also has a negative connotation. In a political context, tribalism can mean discriminatory behavior and hostility towards out-groups. It defines itself on the basis of in-group favoritism or in-group parochialism.
In the former sense, the mainstream world is non-tribal. In the latter sense of the word, the mainstream world seems to be very tribal.
People are becoming more crappy towards the out-group. There is more aggressiveness towards the out-group nowadays. The fact may be that people on the other side are people we disagree with. But the tendency seems to be to consider them as enemies.
In this negative sense of tribalism, the most important value is group-loyalty. One has to be constantly proving to belong to the tribe by declaring tribe-loyalty. If one fails to do this, with immediate effect s/he is excommunicated!
