What histories and wonders of the world, our generation and the generation following us have witnessed and are yet to witness!
We have seen public telephones, booked trunk-calls, pagers, cellphones, smartphones, smart watches and AI glasses. We have seen the buggies, the Internet, email, Google, Wikipedia, and artificial intelligence. We have seen the world getting smaller. We have seen people getting bigger.
In 2022 we have witnessed people above 65 surpassing those under 5, in the world. We are seeing population peaking and declining in many countries and parts of the world. We have seen the world’s population doubling and tripling, people migrating to other parts of the world like never before in history, deserts becoming city scapes and greening up. We are also witnessing population growth slowing down very quickly. We only need to wait until 2080 to see the number of people over 65 outnumbering those under 18, and the natural demographics standing upside-down. By 2085, at least some of those reading this post will have seen the world population peak at 10.3 billion and begin to decline.
Europe, east-Asia and China have reached the peak and have been on the decline for some years. In another twenty years, India will also peak and start to walk the downhill path. In a hundred years, the population will be reach back to where it is today. From there on, it will be sharp descent.
What all things yet to come we will see in the meantime!
The years ahead will see artificial intelligence become the greatest blessing to humanity. The world we see today will change.
The world needs to end extreme accumulation of wealth and extreme poverty, and the possibilities of life must become accessible to all without any discrimination. For that, humans must deepen their mutual respect, care, and cooperation. A new humanity must emerge within the next three generations. It is already too late. But it is slowly happening. The world needs new perspectives and vocabulary. It needs new hearts and looks. We need to be the change we want to see.
