The findings of a 2021 survey on American families and perspectives on family were released by the Pew Research Center in 2023.

50% of people aged 18 to 49 are living in a family. Meanwhile, 31% are never married.

Interracial marriages in the United States have increased from 4% in 1980 to 16% in 2021. Same-sex marriages are about 1%.

As already mentioned, 50% of people are married. The likelihood of marriage is very high among those with a higher level of education (college graduation or more): 61%

The likelihood of marriage is very low among those only with high school education: 44%

The percentage of people aged 25 to 49 raising children was 67% in 1970. In 2021, only 37% of people of the same age group are raising children.

In 1990, 2% of those cohabiting had children. In 2021, that number increased to 5%.

The average number of children among those with children is 2. However, the number of children among those who have not completed high school is 2.4. Among those with at least a bachelor's degree, the number of children is 1.8.

When race and ethnicity are taken into consideration, the Hispanic population has 2.3 children, among blacks 2.0, among whites 1.9, and among Asians 1.7.

The percentage of children growing up with both parents is 64%.

81% of children of parents with a bachelor's degree or higher grow up with both parents. Only 49% of children of parents with less than a high school education grow up with both parents.

Looking back by ethnicity, 83% of children of Asian parents grow up with both parents. Children of white parents likely to grow up with both parents is 73%. This figure drops to 57% for Hispanics and 35% for blacks.

For sure, we can glean some clues from this survey about some of the general trends that are happening in the world.

They also provide clues about family, marital status, childbearing, and stable relationships and their correlation to other factors.

I think these figures also provide some clues about the level of poverty, cultural disadvantageousness, social acceptability, access to education, and lack of welfare programs in the country.
