For the past five years, June 19 has been a federal holiday in the United States. "Juneteenth," is a portmanteau of the words June and Nineteenth. Although the abolitionist law came into effect in January 1865, General Gordon announced the final emancipation enforcement on June 19 in Texas. It was on that day the last of the enslaved black people for the first time learned that they were free! Therefore, in the real sense Juneteenth is also the National Freedom Day.
This year, Juneteenth coincides with the feast of "Corpus Christi" - the feast of the Eucharist. It is traditionally known as the feast of the Body of Christ. The Church believes that the Holy Eucharist is the sacramental Body of Christ and the Church is the mystical Body of Christ. At the same time, the world is the cosmic Body of Christ. The Body of Christ is made whole, where justice is available to all, when no one is outside; all are united as a body. The sacramental body is there for the growth, blooming and frution of the mystical body. The mystical body is there for the growth, blooming and fruition of the cosmic body.
To say that the last person in the United States has freedom and equality is technically a correct statement, it does not mean that it should be actually so.
Still there are many countries and regions in this world where even a Juneteenth remains simply a dream. Wherever divisions on account of hatred exist, the Body of Christ is broken. The cosmic Body of Christ is a dream where humanity is united in brotherly love.
It could be far away. But, not totally impossible.
