Many people seem to have a lack of understanding about what humility is. What actually is humility? Humility is Truth. Humility is the honest acceptance of who we are. The uniqueness of each of us; our dignity before God; the essence that the Lord of the universe has infused into us so that we cannot be separated from the flow of love in this magnificent universe. At the same time, on the other hand, we are just a lump of dirt. In short, we are a treasure - a treasure given in an earthen vessel. When we accept both these aspects, we have become humble.

We don't have to extinguish the glory of others to brighten up the glory in us. Nor do we have to say that everyone else is a vessel of gold to highlight that we are an earthen vessel.

When we accept that we are not our own makers, when we say that the life in us is but God's grace, when we acknowledge the greatness in others, when we encourage others, when we do the possible good for the sake of others, when we are grateful for every little good deed that others do for us, when we apologize for our mistakes, when we acknowledge that many others have contributed to our success, when we clean up internally and externally, when we consider others with reverence and greatness, when we do things that can be done collectively in a participative manner, when we don't take credit alone, but share the recognition - we are walking humbly.

In the saying of the poet that trees bow down when they are loaded with fruits, and clouds bow to the earth when they are laden with water, therein must be a critique against an unhumble society!
