If you ask me what spirituality is, I would say that it is 'faith incarnating'.
Where is the starting point of spirituality? No doubt, it must begin within each person. The beginning of spirituality is to recognize one's own inner self as a sanctuary - sacred space, and to maintain it that way. That is where the spring must gush forth. If it ends there, it still fails to become spirituality. It is only the starting point of spirituality. The sense of the sacred, the respect and service due to it, must flow from within to others and to the world. Only then, faith will have incarnated.
There are many new streams of spirituality such as eco-spirituality, feminine spirituality, etc. Even these streams to have life and be life-giving, they should emanate from within. That's why the "Sacred heart" is something more than a mere devotion.
Nowadays, many people are concerned about religion. Those who are passionate about Religion seem to be laboring to clean up the country, society, and the world. Their efforts end up in vain!
Because such people almost never starts from within.
They go to cleanse the outside!

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside they are full of plunder and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup so that the outside also may be clean."
