In English we speak about conundrum. Meaning a riddle or a problem that is difficult to solve. We, the human race, are very skilled at creating this all the time. In my our vernacular in olden times there was a saying: 'Even if someone beats his mom, there are people on both sides.' For people who coined it, it was certain that no one should beat one's mother. Period. Such a phrase must have come into existence when a differing position may have been popping up in the society. Times have changed since. Nowadays, there would be not just two, but at least a hundred positions even on that. That is the reason why the space of authority is shrinking day by day!
Power (politics) is one of the most powerful temptations of humans. According to the Bible, it was one of the temptations that Jesus had to encounter in the desert. Although Jesus overcame that temptation, the Church did not overcome it. The affair between the church and state reached its peak in Europe in the Middle Ages. Even a pejorative term like "Caesaropapacy" was coined in that context. From there, a huge awareness that church and state shouldn't be combined became a an understanding of the public and that of the Church. It does not mean that this awareness did not exist in the Church, or that members of the Church did not have a role in building this public consciousness. In those times as in all other times, there were many people in the Church with prophetic voices. In case of a marriage between church and state, it is the state that benefits. The Church suffers greatly. It becomes corrupted and empty. In any case, those concerned have always been careful not to bring church and state together in Europe and wherever Europe's experiencial awareness had an influence.
However, those who haven't had such learned historical lessons, are trying to marry religion and state.
The consequences of it will be far-reaching.
