Just four

Aside from the four Gospels, the authors of the New Testament epistles are primarily Paul, Peter, and John. The three very important apostles. The insights these three have given us about Love are not negligible. Peter, who writes, “Since you have purified yourselves by obedience to the truth for sincere mutual love, love one another intensely from a pure heart” (1 Pet. 1:22), would later write: “Above all let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins.” (1 Pet. 4:8).

Whenever Peter speaks of love, he always uses the adjective “intense.” We can even read Peter’s words to mean that love nullifies a multitude of sins.

Paul wrote a thesis on love just in thirteen very short verses (1 Cor. 13). None of us can say more about love than that. It is so all-encompassing and perfect.

Elsewhere, Paul writes: “Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.” (Rom. 13:8)

John is known as the apostle of love. “He who does not love does not know God, because God is love. He who dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him.” (1 John 4:8,9) is certainly the foundation of Loving.

“Fear” is the trap that many who claim to love God, especially many retreat preachers and content creators, fall into. John also would speak about it. “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not perfect in love.” (1 Jn. 4:18)

What more could we expect to be said about love?!

If you have the four verses I quoted above from Peter, Paul, and John, then I believe that you already have the outline and core of the Gospels. Anyone who has many other things, but does not have these four verses, is of little importance!
